Spirefall

Spirefall

Sky Wars · a duel of wizards

Four wizards on flying carpets. Twenty minutes. An island that won't survive it.

Runs in the browser, nothing to install. On your own, bots take the other seats.

The flight

The carpet is not a helicopter

First person: the edge of the carpet, your own hands, and desert out to the horizon. The carpet is heavy — the nose swings after the mouse a beat late, and a hard corner slides you sideways. It takes a minute to learn, and then you won't want the other thing back.

The rivals

Four in one sky

Every wizard flies a banner — the colour tells you at a glance who just flashed past the dune and whose tower holds the shore. The match runs twenty minutes; whoever puts down the most rivals takes it.

The keep

A castle on the horizon

Your corner of the island holds your keep, and it is no backdrop: bank enough mana and the tower climbs a tier, taking your health and mana pool up with it. Your rival's castle grows the same way — and you can see it from across the sea.

The heart of it

The ground is ammunition

The landscape is not scenery. You can rewrite it, and it stays rewritten for the rest of the match.

Volcano pushes a mountain out of the sand in seconds, lava still glowing in the caldera. Earthquake walks a rift half a kilometre across the island — reach the coast with it and the sea pours in and stays. Meteor leaves a crater you could park a keep in.

Everyone sees it. The mountain you raised grows on their screens too. Which makes terrain a move: wall off a route, bury a position, cut a rival off from his own keep.

An earthquake rift with sea water flooding into it
The rift reached the shore, and the sea walked into the desert. It stays that way.

The arsenal

Nine spells, two hands

Two are loaded at any moment — left hand and right. You swap them mid-flight, and half the tactics live there.

FireballYour bread and butter. Cheap, fast, leaves a crater.
LightningInstant and exact. A mountain still stops it.
MeteorFalls from the sky onto your aim point. Crater and everything near it.
VolcanoRaises a mountain with lava. Expensive and impossible to miss.
EarthquakeTears a rift halfway across the island.
ShieldEats nine tenths of the damage. You see it, so does the other one.
Speed UpThrottle open, wider view. Run them down or get out.
PossessionA flag that claims loose mana in your colour.
CastleRaises your keep one tier higher.

Why go down there

Mana, balloons and a keep that grows

Kill something

Golden mana drops out of it and sits there on the sand.

Take it

Fly close and the carpet sweeps it up. Possession reaches the ones you can't.

A balloon carries it home

One lifts from your keep and hauls the mana to the vault. It can be shot down on the way — theirs and yours.

The keep rises

Bank enough, cast Castle, and your tower climbs a tier. Your health and mana pool climb with it.

A top-tier keep on the shore: ringed walls, towers, a central spire
The same keep at its highest tier. It grows in front of you, tier by tier.

The island is inhabited

And you are not the worst thing on it

Something else lives between you and your rivals, and it does not care which of you is which.

Sand worms stalk under the dunes — a moving mound of sand gives them away — then burst out beneath anyone flying low. Dragons circle high and breathe fire. Griffins dive. Crabs patrol the beaches and skeletons loose arrows from the slopes.

All of it hunts every wizard equally. Sometimes the better move is to leave a rival alive and let the worm take him.

The worm is out. You have about a second.

How to play

Take a seat and fly

The lobby shows who is gathering a party. Take a seat or open your own — two, three or four. The party takes off the moment its last seat is filled. On your own, bots take the other seats and the match runs exactly as it would.
